Our client’s have been asking us when the “no fault” divorces come into play. We can now confirm that this will be on 6th April 2022! Lawyers have been requesting this change for many years. It means that the procedure will change slightly to enable a divorce to proceed upon the irretrievable breakdown of a marriage. We will no longer have to include examples of unreasonable behaviour or adultery. Therefore, for couples who have simply grown apart and do not want to cast blame, this change will make the process more amicable and you will no longer have to wait until you have been separated for 2 years. This is good news for family law.
