Wills and Probate
Wills
Most people assume that if you do not have a Will, your possessions and money will automatically go to your wife, husband, partner or children. But that is not necessarily true.
If you do not have a Will, the law decides who gets what and your estate may not be split between the family or friends you would have chosen.
If you do not have a Will, your relatives may have to go to court to decide who takes care of your children.
At Salmons Solicitors we will guide you through the process of making a Will. Once complete, you will be surprised how re-assured you feel to know that there will be no expensive legal battles involving your loved ones after you have passed on. The costs are not that expensive either - we charge £100 plus vat for a single will and £175 plus vat for the wills of a couple who each leave their assets to the survivor. Particularly complex wills are charged on a time basis. We add a time charge of £30 plus vat per visit for a local home/hospice/hospital visit within a 5 mile radius. For longer distances please contact us for a quotation for an out of office visit. Travelling expenses are charged in addition at 45 pence per mile. If you have recently used our conveyancing services to buy or sell a house we offer a 15% discretionary discount.
Each year we support the fund raising activities of the Douglas Macmillan cancer hospice and funds we receive for will preparation are donated to that charity. http://www.dmhospice.org.uk/ We offer a 10 per cent reduction in our fees ( excluding expenses ) for persons who leave a bequest of a reasonable size to Douglas Macmillan cancer hospice in their will.
