The DO-IT-YOURSELF DIVORCE PACK
Divorce and family legal advice are crisis purchases in many instances where the fees have not been budgeted for and for those clients who may be prepared to do a little groundwork for themselves we can offer our fairly unique DIY divorce pack. There are imitators out there containing the forms and guides but ours is different in an important way - it can include a one hour meeting with one of our family solicitors on any subject of your choice such as divorce law and procedure, divorce costs orders, children arrangements and issues and family property problems or division of assets. The price of our DIY divorce pack is either £39.95 plus vat for Option A (no advice meeting) or £149.95 plus vat for our Option B pack ( which includes the advice meeting) which, in today’s times, is real value for money. You can buy the DIY divorce pack now and download it through our website - just click on the links to the right of this page. Court fees are payable in addition though you may be able to apply for court fee exemption on the grounds of low income.
DISCOUNTS AND REDUCTIONS
For NHS and Local Government Staff - we can offer a 10 per cent reduction on our private hourly rates and our fixed fees in respect of the first £1000 of fees so this can be worth up to £100 plus vat on production of the staff card. This does not apply to the DIY divorce pack or the Single Fixed Fee.
LEGAL AID
On the 1st April 2013 the Coalition Government introduced severe restrictions on the availability of legal aid for family disputes. It is not likely to be available to a client in the majority of cases unless the client meets certain very strict criteria and the Legal Aid Agency estimates that it will now only be available to about 25% of the clients who used to qualify for it before 1st April 2013.
For more detail on the new availability of family legal aid we would recommend you refer to our page Check whether you are entitled to Legal Aid
In addition, the number of clients we can take on under legal aid are also restricted and these are known as "case starts" - sometimes we run out and have to wait until a fresh money allocation occurs.
Because of the limited amount of work we can undertake, this level of service is a very basic level and we will not always be able to see you when you want to come in and may have to ask support staff to speak to you on the telephone. We may have to restrict the number of meetings and the length of those meetings and you may have to be entered upon a waiting list until more case starts become available. In cases where there is family property in dispute you may also have to pay the fees back to the legal aid agency.
You should consult us if you need to know whether you would qualify for legal aid, or, you might like to try the on-line calculator which is actually designed to be used by legal professionals but you can find it at this link http://civil-eligibility-calculator.justice.gov.uk/
We recommend you discuss which funding method is right for you with your family solicitor.
